Decking of Tai Wai Nullah in Sha Tin
The Tai Wai Nullah is the upstream channelised section of Shing Mun River with a width of about 39 m. As water flow is very low most of the time, the concrete nullah bed is exposed.
The vision of the project of decking of Tai Wai Nullah in Sha Tin is creation of space to support the sustainable development of the community.
Upon investigation, the section of Tai Wai Nullah next to the TWGHs Sin Chu Wan Primary School is the proposed site for the decking works.
The project includes building deck of approximately 2 000 square metres (m2) over the Tai Wai Nullah, including all necessary ancillary and associatetworks, e.g. drainage works and permanent support columns, and construction atop of the deck of a Futsal (5-a-side soccer) pitch with ancillary and supportive facilities, such as boundary fencing and lighting. Demountable spectator stands with simple covers will be installed to further enhance the flexibility of multi-purpose uses of the pitch. Standard soccer pitch lighting systems will be provided.
In compliance with the latest standard of Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), no rebound walls surrounding the proposed soccer pitch is required. This will facilitate organisations of various kinds of activities, such as the Tai Chiu Festival, bazaars and other community functions.
Drainage culverts will be constructed under the deck to maintain a smooth river flow. To meet the drainage needs of Shing Mun River, the level of the deck will be slightly higher than that of the pedestrian ways on the two sides of the nullah.
Ramps and stairs will be provided on both sides of the deck so that visitors from either Shing Ho Road or Shing Wan Road can have barrier-free access to the deck.
